What is the full form of CHSL?

The CHSL full form is the Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination also known as SSC CHSL. It is a national-level examination and the conducting body for this examination is Staff Selection Commission (SSC).

This is the examination which is conducted for the recruitment of various posts such as Postal Assistant (PA), Data Entry Operator (Grade A), Data Entry Operator (DEO), Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Sorting Assistant (SA), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA).

There are other examinations that are conducted by the SSC for the grade 10th and graduation passed candidates. Exam Pattern of SSC CHSL

The SSC has provided a detail exam pattern for SSC CHSL in their official website. This examination contains total 3 tiers i.e. tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3, out of them tier 1 and tier 3 is of online mode and the tier 2 is an offline mode examination.

In tier 1, multiple choice questions whereas in the tier 2, descriptive type questions are asked in the examination.

Exam Pattern for Tier 3

Data Entry Operator:

  • Speed: 8000 key depressions per hour
  • Test Requirement: 2000- 2200 key depression
  • Duration: For General Category -15 minutes and for OH/VH/PH/CP candidates – 35 minutes

Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant LDCs:

  • Speed: 10500 key depressions per hour
  • Test Requirement: Word accuracy within the allotted time.
  • Duration: For General Candidates – 10 minutes and for OH/VH/PH/CP candidates – 30 minutes.

Application Procedure

Interested students must register themselves on the online portal to apply for SSC CHSL. Candidates should follow certain steps for application.

Step 1: First of all, Fill Up the Registration form on the official portal of SSC i.e. ssc.nic.in.

In this form, you have to provide Candidate’s name, Father’s name, Mother’s name, Gender, Date of birth, Category, Permanent address, Email ID, Class X education board, Class X roll number, Class X year of passing, Level of educational qualification, ID number, Mobile number.

Step 2: Scan Photo and Signature, and Upload it to the allotted space which must be in the JPEG format.

When upload is being done, press the ‘Save Draft’ button and then press on to the ‘Final Submit’ for the final submission of the registration form. When you press on the ‘Final Submit’ button, a One-Time Password (OTP) will be provided to your registered mobile number or email ID. You have to enter that OTP in the given slot and then press on the Submit button. Click on Submit button leads you to the successful submission and registration ID will be displayed on the screen. To get login password, candidates need to check the registered email ID.

Keep in mind that you have to write the registration ID and password down for further use.

Step 3: Fill Up the Application Form

Successful registered candidates are now redirected to the application window. Here, you can see an ‘Apply’ button. Press the ‘Apply’ button to fill up the application form for SSC CHSL.

Personal details will be filled up automatically as provided in the registration form. Some other details such as education qualification, preferences of the examination centres of your own choice needs to be filled up in this section.

Step 4: Payment for SSC CHSL   

After all the steps is being completed, in the final step, candidates have to make payment for application whether in offline mode or online mode.

Candidates willing to pay offline can make their payment using SBI challan. For online payment, candidate can use BHIM UPI/ Internet banking or they can also choose credit/ debit card of Visa/ MasterCard/ Maestro/ RuPay for payment. Women need not to pay any application fee whether she is from general category or reserved category.
